Eric Schmidling ‘93

Eric Schmidling ‘93, Scroll 926, graduated from UWMilwaukee in 2008 with his MBA in Finance. After graduating, he continued on with a career in the retirement plan and financial services industry. Working with several firms over the last 15 years, Eric has been involved with several key initiatives and has served as a mentor for new industry members and local supervision teams. He currently works at Northwestern Mutual in the compliance department and has received awards and honors from Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, was named Pacemaker and received the Power of 10 Sales Award with Northwestern Mutual, and is a Certified Master Trainer with the same company.

In his free time, Eric is heavily involved with community service and works with organizations such as Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, Alex’s Lemonade, St. Jude’s, and United Way. Along with being an extremely active member of his community, Eric coaches a youth baseball team and is going into his sixth year as league commissioner.

During his time as an undergrad, Eric was an incredibly active member of the chapter. He served as IFC Chairman (1994), Crysophylos (1995), Epiprytanis (1996), Prytanis (1997), Resident Advisor (1999) and sat on multiple committees including homecoming, humorology, and rush. Eric also left a physical legacy on the TKE house, with brass letters he designed and built displayed at 216 Langdon St. for many years. Today, his painted murals remain on the 2nd and 3rd-story staircase landings.

Eric’s involvement with TKE as an alumnus is just as elaborate. Currently serving as Lambda Chapter Foundation’s treasurer, he plays a strong part in developing educational programming, event planning, and fundraising– which includes spearheading the Legacy Fund for undergraduate scholarships with brother Eric Lanning. Whether increasing alumni involvement through his role as commissioner of the Akela Club Lambda alumni fantasy football league or attending numerous alumni events over the years, Eric’s love for TKE is showcased in a multitude of ways.
